EVERYTHING YOU DIDN'T WANT TO KNOW

I never wanted to #WFH but how I'm making it work

Working from home was never something I desired to do. *In comes COVID-19*
Now, I'm sitting at my temporary office setup on a folding table trying to figure it out.
Don't read my sarcasm wrong, I am so thankful to have a job right now amidst a global pandemic. There are many people who aren't that lucky. But let's not pretend like there wasn't a steep learning curve for all of us who have never worked from our homes full time before.

All that to say, let me gratefully divulge to you my pro-con list on working from home.

Pros
  • Being 20 steps away from work instead of 20 miles, I don't dread the "getting ready for work" process. No business casual wardrobe, no lunch to pack, etc.
  • Without constant office interruptions (i.e. phone calls, coworker "drive bys", etc.), I find myself more able to steadily focus on a specific task
  • Already being at home, I don't feel rushed to finish tasks when 5 o'clock is closing in. It's less stressful to wrap up and then commute downstairs for dinner

Cons
  • Because now I'm only seconds away from my desk, I've reverted back to my college schedule: Stay up wayyy too late and sleep until the very last minute (Which definitely wastes valuable productivity time in the mornings)
  • Not being in the same physical office space as your colleagues and hire ups means having to work a lot harder to collaborate on projects and tasks
  • It's way too easy to "give up" on the work day a littllleeee earlier than 5 p.m. (Let's be honest, OK?)

It's incredible how quickly companies, mine included, adapted to a remote work environment. Evolve or die, right? On a Monday I was commuting to work and sharing an office with Carol and by Wednesday I went to work on my couch and occupied a "cubicle" with my husband.

Don't worry, y'all. A pandemic affects everyone. No one escapes without changes in their job, lifestyle or routine.

Keep it up. We're all just doing the best we can. <3
